Scotland In order to measure the size and growth of the sector we need to map who is out there including fully fledged Social Firms, emerging Social Firms and potential Social Firms (who have not started trading as yet). To this end Social Firms Scotland conducted an extensive (but not exhaustive) mapping exercise through 2007.
The mapping results are still being finalised, headline statistics will appear here along with a report on the mapping. Mapping the sector is an ongoing process and the statistics once finalised are a snapshot from 2007. UK Social Firms UK has conducted mapping of the UK sector over 2005 and 2006 to begin to build a more solid picture of the sector from a UK perspective. More detailed information can be found on the Social Firms UK website however the overall summary shows: • The 2006 mapping identified 137 businesses in the Social Firm sector, an increase of 15% on 2005. • The 2005 mapping identified 49 Social Firms and 70 emerging Social Firms. In 2006, of the 137 firms identified: - 67 are full Social Firms (an increase of 37% on 2005) - 70 are emerging Social Firms (not all are the same firms identified in 2005)
