There are a number of economic benefits:
  1. The health cost saving that arise per person working in a Social Firms.
  2. The economic benefit of working to the individual - earning a real wage allows financial independence and flexibility
  3. The benefit to society of having more people paying tax AND not claiming benefits
  4. The local multiplier effect of having more people in any area working and spending locally

A recent report from DRC stated that improving the skills of disabled people to world-class levels by 2020 would boost the economy by £35 billion over 30 years. Social Firms employ disabled and disadvantaged people meaning an ever bigger economy boost could be achieved!

Improving the employment rate of disabled people to the UK average would give a boost to the economy of some £13 billion, equivalent to six months' economic growth.
